Bangkok's Wine Bars
In spite of exorbitant taxes, wine drinking in Bangkok continues to grow in popularity, especially among Thais. This is demonstrated not only by an increase in retail outlets and the size and quality of restaurant wine lists, but also by the growth in the number of wine bars to be found in the city.

Here – along with a few descriptive comments – is a list of wine bars I have discovered. I haven’t visited all of them, but will do so shortly. If your favorite place to drink wine isn’t listed, please let me know and I will check it out and then add it to the list – or let you know why I haven’t.
Many restaurants have a bar where customers can drink wine, I have only included these places if the bar is separate and a spot where wine can be consumed without the wine drinkers then being expected to move on into the dining room for a meal.
This is an on going project and will change as wine bars open and close. Please help me keep it up by offering suggestions, criticisms and keeping it up to date.
Aldo’s Mediterranean Bistro & Wine Bar
![]() |
Ascott Sathorn Bangkok, 187 South Sathorn Road - BTS: Chong Nongsee – 10 min. - Tel: 02-676-6982 - Open: every day |
This bright and modern wine bar has 43 seats, including 15 at a beautiful bar, eight at back lit alabaster table, and 20 along windows overlooking the city and a swimming pool. There is a good international selection of wines and delicious things to munch on, usually with a Mediterranean twist. Aldo’s is difficult to find, but this is part of its charm. It is an isolated place providing refuge from life in a large and hectic city, especially if you are in the Silom/Sathorn area. Aldo’s is unique in that it is open virtually 24 hours as it is a part of the Cascade Club – a fitness center.

An unassuming little place with a wine bar above a small restaurant serving inexpensive Malaysian food. The wine bar specializes in reasonably priced wines and is a great place to drink wine in a simple and warm setting with others who enjoy good wine.

I haven’t been here is a couple of years, but it has a large wine list with a selection wines from all over the world representing the preferences of the owner. With subdued lighting and exposed brick walls; it’s relatively upscale, but is still a relaxed and friendly place. I will enlarge this description after paying it another visit

Located on the lower level of the hotel; the wine and champagne bar area offers 30 selections by the glass, starting at only 149 baht per glass – a real plus. Bar@494 is a busy hangout for the city’s beautiful people and sometimes rather hectic. If you tire of wine, you can have a premium single malt whiskey at the whiskey lounge area.

Located on busy and trendy Soi Thonglor, this wine bar is found in the corridor opposite Beccofino Italian Restaurant. It is snazzy little place with a variety of seating and features a large selection of wines created by co-owner Kit Marshall from a variety of regions, including a large selection of wines by the glass that changes frequently. Although most people at the wine bar end up in the restaurant, it is by no means mandatory.

64 Thanon Pan, between Sathorn and Silom - Open daily 18.00 to midnight - Tel: 02-637-9899 |
If you are looking for a wine bar cum restaurant with class and elegance, this is where you will find it. Opus has taken the drinking of Italian wine in Bangkok to new and extraordinary levels.
The drill here for most people is to walk into the large ‘wine cellar’; select a bottle of wine with the help of omnipresent manager Alex Morabito; and then order food to match the wine. You can also order wine by the glass, including some reasonably priced prosecco. All of the still wines are Italian and represent a full spectrum of the best Italy has to offer.

Sukhumvit Soi 11, opposite Ambassador Hotel - BTS Nana – 10 min. - Open daily 11.00 - late - Tel: 02-651-2947 |
The Spanish love to drink and snack on Tapas. The opportunity to engage in this pastime can be had in Bangkok in a beautifully renovated shophouse that is filled with smooth concrete, pastel yellows and browns, and lots of charm. Although all manner of drinks are served at Tapas Café, wine is the most popular beverage. There are five whites, five reds and one rosé, as well as sangria available by the glass along with an extensive selection of wines by the bottle. If you are looking for tapas and wine, you can’t go wrong at this popular hangout.
Tapas Cafe now has a sister outlet named Spanish on 4 on Silom Road. I’ll review it later.

Enter Tapas Y Vino and the colors and decor immediately remind you of Spain. Located on the 2nd floor of the Grand Millennium Sukhumvit, this wine bar is compact, but a bit more elegant than most of the city’s wine bar outlets. Seating is at the bar overlooking the cooking action or at tables that stretch along the wall with bottles of wine in racks above.
There are 16 wines available by the glass and over 120 different selections in bottles. The tapas are eclectic with a selection of Spanish and French classics along with some innovative selections inspired by Asian cuisines.

Sofitel Hotel Bangkok; 188 Silom Road - BTS: Chong Nongsri – 10 min. - Tel: 02-238-1991 |
V9 takes enjoying wine to new heights. Located on the hotel’s 37th floor, it offers spectacular views along with the most wine drinking options of any restaurant or wine bar in Bangkok. To start with there is a wine shop where a bottle of wine can be purchased at ‘street prices’ to be enjoyed in V9 (no corkage charge). In addition, as a part of the Sofitel chain the restaurant is involved in the ‘Voyage du Vin’ program that involves evaluating and selecting outstanding wines from a variety of countries for the Sofitel chain.
On top of all this V9 still has the ‘wine flights’ it introduced to Bangkok several years ago, a selection of three sample glasses of wine for the price of one glass of wine. The wines for each flight are centered on a theme and are placed on a specific spot on a sheet of paper with tasting notes and a place for each glass of wine. There is a full range of food from snacks to full meals.

K Village, Sukhumvit Soi 26, Sukhumvit Road - Open daily 07.30 to midnight - Tel: 02-661-3944 |
Wildly popular and invariably packed; customers at this outlet of Wine Connection always appear to be having a good time. You select a bottle of wine from the wine shop, sit at a table in the adjacent bistro and enjoy your wine along with a selection of Euro deli style items from the menu. If you don’t want a bottle, there is also a selection of wines by the glass.
The wines are imported directly by Wine Connection and are usually from little known producers, but of good quality. This results in reasonable prices, a rarity in Bangkok where taxes make wine prices high.

There are two Wine Loft outlets in Bangkok with a third about to open.. They are primarily wine shops selling wine for consumption off the premises, but they also have onsite wine bars. These are great places to drink wine as the selection of wines is fantastic and there are many reasonably priced selections. The Thonglor outlet is a personable favorite. It is a great place to drink and snack at an outdoor table while watching all the beautiful people in the Thonglor area stroll by.
