Taking a “Bite” out of Korean Style BBQ
Korean cuisine has recently received accolades as being some of the world’s healthiest food. Shinla Korean Restaurant delivers Korean food that is more than just “good for you”, it’s downright delicious!

Shinla Korean Restaurant is the latest eatery opened up by Korean owners Mr. Lee Hyeon Ho and his wife Sung Hee Kwon. Located in an unassuming strip mall near Bang-Na, this restaurant is airy and bright and features state of the art infrared BBQ grills that are smokeless and produce very little excess heat during cooking.
Shinla invites you to dine family style. Guests are meant to come in a group and share the experience with one another. Keep in mind that eating Korean BBQ is not a passive dining experience; be prepared to roll up your sleeves, grab your chop sticks and really get involved. Eating with you hands is encouraged and it all culminates in a pro-active and dynamic experience of grilling, creating and eating a perfect “bite” that is traditionally consumed one delectable mouthful at a time.
All diners who visit Shinla Korean Restaurant are treated to a plethora of side dishes called “Ban Chan’. These include perfectly seasoned veggies and pickled favorites such as kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, semi-sweet spinach, steamed cockles, green papaya salad, fish ball salad, and mini pancakes. These side dishes are re-filled by the helpful staff as soon as they are consumed and they are meant to be enjoyed in addition to any main dish ordered. According to Mrs. Sung Hee Kwon, the banchan is made fresh daily and it changes according to what the chef is able to source locally from the market.
The Korean BBQ includes a variety of beef, pork and seafood items that are most often ordered in sets. The most popular of which is the Beef & Pork Set which serves 2-3 people and includes tender beef and pork rib meat, Samgyeopsal (which is rich and fatty unsalted pork) and the famous Bulgogi that consists of delicate slices of prime beef marinated in soy sauce, ginger, sesame oil, garlic and sugar. The fun really begins as you start to grill the meat table side with your metal chop sticks, and then dive into a massive pile of crisp lettuce leaves and begin making your own individual little "sandwiches" that you pop into your mouth. The hot crispy grilled meat, salty bean paste, sweetness from the grilled garlic, spiciness of the chili dipping sauce and the cool crunchy lettuce all coalesce in a powerhouse of textures and flavors!
Another highly recommended dish is the Dolsot - Bibimbap. Indulge yourself with a steaming bowl of white rice served in a sizzling stone pot. The rice is topped off with an artful arrangement of colorful sautéed and seasoned vegetables, cooked ground pork, fiery chili sauce and a creamy raw egg yolk. The colors of the ingredients in the Bibimbap are linked to Korean culture and are meant to symbolize the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. These colors are also said to correspond to organs in the body and translate into benefits that improve the health of those who eat the Bibimbap. The overall flavor of the Bibimbap is mild and the dish is a fabulous mix of warm, crunchy, creamy, and earthy elements that ultimately lead to a thoroughly satisfying experience.
The cuisine at Shinla Korean Restaurant is hard to resist. It is healthy, fresh, fun, interactive and delightful on many levels. Korean food is culturally rich and is truly a feast for the senses. No matter what your motivation is for eating Korean food, you won’t be disappointed when you give into the urge at Shinla Korean Restaurant.
