Ninja House Hero looks unassuming enough from the outside but once inside, this Japanese themed restaurant injects theatre, fun and of course masked ninjas, in a night of dramatic dining. The simple sit-down meal will never quite seem entertaining enough. With dancing shows, a gong struck on your arrival and a walk through dark cavernous walkways – think Indiana Jones in Japan – you arrive at your table and fall into the trap of wanting every dish on this menu.
Setting the stage is cheese wrapped with smoked salmon, duck breast wrapped with lotus, enuki mushroom wrapped with shrimp, grilled squid, as well as fried mushroom stuffed with minced pork and teriyaki sauce. Cucumber with caviar takes centre stage with this star studded appetizer platter for just 300 thb which only adds to the idea that this is all a fantastical dream.
The Sashimi at 1500 thb is an extravagant but never-to-be-forgotten dish for two. A wooden boat is brought to the table with wooden tubs on board of toro, adami, salmon, yellow fin, octopus and sea-bass. The fish is cut into large, thick slices and there is no doubting the quality which deserves the fanfare of its presentation. The boat comes as if it is sailing through the mists of time with the help of dry-ice packed into its helm. This is standing ovation food theatre.
Audience participation comes in the form of Ninja Steak for 400 thb which is strip loin with carrot, mushrooms and broccoli and arrives sizzling with a fiery flame licking the sides of the ceramic dish, cooking the meat to personal perfection and adding to the visual feast. The onion and sake sauce, green onion and garlic sauce and Japanese dip add depth of flavor.
Pasta with cream and mushrooms for 250 thb is creamy and delicious. A pasta dish at a Japanese restaurant presents a sense of poetic license to cast its own stock cuisine characters.
This is a unique restaurant where diners are entertained, fed fine foods and go home with a full belly and story to tell. The private dining rooms for two and bigger party room look like the sub-plots of a fairy tale setting; secret hollows in which to forget the outside world and indulge in a unique ambience. For children, Ninja Hero House might seem more than a little magical and mystical and is a perfect family eating adventure.
However, whilst the ninjas might be masked there is no hiding the fact that Ninja Hero House menu creates its own theatre. The food performs as well as any Asian melodrama by pulling you expertly into the storyline of its dramatic and delicious dishes.
