Le Pré Grill

Operated by talented and personable Chef Jai Lafon, Le Pré Grill serves a variety of traditional French dishes in a modern and attractive setting that has a bit of a Parisian feel. Chef Jai, who is half French and half Thai lived and worked in France for a considerable period. He is an omnipresent figure at the restaurant, spending time both in the kitchen and dining room, insuring that everything is up to his exacting standards.

As you enter, you walk past a bar that is ideal for a glass of wine or a pre-dinner cocktail. The dining area is light and airy with a high ceiling and windows looking out on the street. Against one wall there is a small stage while on the other side of the room there is a large walk-in ‘wine cellar’ where customers can choose a bottle of wine.

Although Le Pré Grill has an elegant feel, it is a cozy place with a cosmopolitan clientele who share a common interest in good food and drink. It is suitable for a light meal or a gourmet feast while enjoying a night on the town.

If you love classics like Pan-fried foie gras served with caramelized passion fruit, Gratinéed escargot with garlic and parsley butter, Boeuf Bourguignon with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables, Duck confit served with sautéed potatoes and orange sauce or Bouillabaisse Rochefortaise (mixed fish and seafood), you will love Le Pré Grill.

In addition to an extensive a la carte menu, Chef Lafon has two economical set menus for parties of two or more. The ‘Vincent Set’ is only 750 baht per person for three courses, including complimentary coffee or tea or 890 baht when soup is added as a course. There is a choice of three main courses: roasted sea bass, duck filet or pork tenderloin.

The ‘Louis Set’ is 1600 baht per person for four courses, including coffee or tea. It is more expensive than the Vincent Set because it features more expensive items like duck liver pate and roasted snow fish.

The wine list at the restaurant is extensive and features wine from throughout the world, including, of course, an impressive selection of French wines. Customers can peruse the wine list or go to the wine cellar to make their selection. Prices start at only 1200 baht and most of the wines are under 2500 baht per bottle. The restaurant also has excellent house wines available by the glass, carafe or bottle. A unique feature is the ‘wine flights’. You can have three small glasses of wine for the price of one, allowing you to compare and contrast wines. This is not only educational; it also allows you to sample several wines before deciding on a bottle.

One of the pleasures of dining in France is the frequent occurrence of live music. Jai Lafon recognizes this and always make a point of having live music at his restaurant. Currently there are two guitarists playing and singing a variety of retro favorites from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. On special occasions and holidays, there is also a good chance there will be live music.

The restaurant is open until 23.00, but the bar stays open until 01.00. This allows customers to linger over a cocktail or wine while listening to music or simply chatting.

Le Pré Grill is easily reached from the Chong Nonsi Skytrain station and there is plenty of parking at lots in the area.
