Syrian born owner Mr. Moeen Al Mowakea stated that “you eat first with your eyes” and he wanted to deliver a concept for a sophisticated restaurant where the environment was as visually stimulating as the flavors of the food on the plate. With seating for only 30 guests, the décor is very modern with trendy black and white furniture, purple neon wall hangings, a brightly lit bar, and leather menus designed by Louis Vutton. Elite offers a full bar plus a nice selection of red and white wines. Mr. Moeen Al Mowakea added, “Elite is not unlike the kind of restaurant you would find in Syria. I wanted to change some misconceptions that people may have; such as not allowing alcohol on the premises. I wanted to create an elegant environment where I can share my hospitality with the people”.
The best part of Elite Restaurant is the food. “If you want to be successful, you have to be generous with the food” said Mr. Moeen Al Mowakea. With that in mind, this lawyer-turned-restaurateur recruited a Syrian chef with more than 13 years of experience in cooking Middle Eastern and Lebanese food and together they developed a Ha’al friendly menu with a strong focus on using only the freshest ingredients where nothing is ever frozen and is made fresh daily. Another key element is the importing of only the highest quality olive oils and authentic Syrian spices and using traditional cooking techniques.
Elite Restaurant also stands out amongst the crowd because of the affordable menu; where nothing is priced above 400 Baht and most items are in the 100 Baht - 250 Baht price rage. Priced at only 60 Baht, the Shawarma sandwiches are the most popular items. Guests can choose from either the Beef and Lamb Shawarma or the Chicken Shawarma sandwiches. The Chicken Shawarma is made from the leg and thigh meat of the chicken in order to retain the moisture of the marinated meat. The lamb is delicate and supple and the chef has expertly prepared the meat to give it a nice combination of both crispy and tender bits.
The seasonings are complex and layered and it is then the meat is creatively wrapped in Arabic bread, which has been lightly grilled on the outside to give the sandwich an unexpected textural element that is magnificently crunchy. Another memorable dish is the Hummus Beirut, which is delicate and exquisite in flavor and is perhaps the smoothest and creamiest hummus in Bangkok.
At first glance, Elite Restaurant may seem to be a bit of a contradiction, but it is a truly unique dining experience. Elite restaurant offers fantastic food at surprisingly great prices and has a trendy and hip environment that makes you want to visit again and again.
